The CPI today said it would not
support any party in the forthcoming by-elections to the
Sankarankovil Assembly seat.
The party did not want to waste "energy and money" in the
by-election as it was not expected bring any political change
in the state, CPI leader D Pandian told reporters here.
Pandian also said the Centre should go ahead with
commissioning the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant, despite
protests against it. The power situation in the state was so
bad it had affected the industries and workers badly and the
State's position was "falling" in the Industrial sector, he
said.
Government had spent Rs 14,000 crore on the KNPP and power
for very essential for the state now ahead of the summer,
Pandian added.
The state-level conference of the CPI would be held at
Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district on Feb 17, 18 and 19 and
national leaders of the party would participate, he said
